Surface Marker Buoy Diver

If you are going to dive in open water, the ability to safely deploy a Surface Marker Buoy is an essential skill, so that your location in the water can be clearly seen by your surface support team or the dive boat crew.

Surface Marker Buoys are an essential tool for UK sea diving and for diving in currents.

Experienced divers can make SMB deployment look deceptively simple, but for the inexperienced it is fraught with hazards. In a pool session and then over two open water dives, you will learn about the different types of reels and buoys available and how to safely deploy a delayed SMB, both from the bottom and from a neutrally buoyant position, hovering in mid-water.

Minimum age:                12 years
